There’s something so fun about photographing couples in a neighborhood that holds personal meaning to them. For these SF engagement photos, we spent the afternoon exploring San Francisco’s colorful North Beach neighborhood, a place especially close to the bride-to-be’s heart. Her parents were married at Saints Peter and Paul Church right on Washington Square, making this location even more meaningful!
I loved the colorful streets, historic architecture, and candid moments I got to capture on both digital and film. This session was such a beautiful reflection of their connection and this exciting season of life.

North Beach is one of those San Francisco neighborhoods I love exploring with couples! It has such colorful storefronts, historic architecture, and cute little neighborhood cafés. There’s so much character around every corner. For these SF engagement photos, we wandered through the neighborhood, stopping at Caffe Trieste, Tosca Cafe, City Lights Bookstore, Washington Square Park, and a few colorful spots along the way. We also captured photos with Saints Peter and Paul Church and Coit Tower in the background.
I photographed their session on a mix of 35mm film, medium format film, and digital, capturing everything from sweet, quiet moments together to lots of genuine laughter. These two have such a natural ease with each other, and I loved getting to document that connection as we explored a neighborhood so meaningful to them.

If you love colorful, candid engagement photos with a little San Francisco charm, North Beach is such a fun location to consider! It’s known for its Italian heritage and the neighborhood is full of personality. You’ll find colorful storefronts, charming cafés, beautiful architecture, and recognizable landmarks like Coit Tower and Saints Peter and Paul Church. It’s also a great neighborhood to explore on foot, making it easy to stop for photos wherever something catches your eye.
One thing I really love about North Beach is how it lends itself to a relaxed, more documentary-style engagement session. You can grab a coffee, browse a bookstore, or simply wander the streets together while I photograph those little moments in between. And if the neighborhood holds personal meaning to you, like it did for this couple, that makes the experience even more special!

Engagement sessions are one of my favorite ways to connect with couples before their wedding day! It’s a chance for us to get to know each other, spend some time in front of the camera, and capture this exciting chapter of your lives together. I love helping couples choose locations that feel personal to them, whether that’s a favorite neighborhood, a meaningful spot, or somewhere new you’ve been wanting to explore.
I include engagement sessions in my wedding photography packages because I truly value having that time together before the big day. Plus, you’ll have beautiful photos to use for your save-the-dates, wedding website, or just to remember this season of life.
