San Francisco maternity photos don’t have to feel like a traditional maternity session. This one focused on life at home as a family of three, just before welcoming baby number two. The goal was to document what this season actually looks like, along with lots of images of their toddler and their home.
Maternity still had a place here, just in a quieter way. A few thoughtful portraits and a growing belly, and moments that naturally unfolded throughout the morning. Most of the session followed their toddler and the rhythm of their home. Their adorable home in San Francisco added color, texture, and a timeless, editorial feel while still feeling relaxed and real.

One of the reasons I love San Francisco maternity photos at home is how easy everything can feel. There’s no rushing or a strict timeline to follow, and definitely no pressure. Kids tend to be more comfortable in their own space, which makes a huge difference during sessions like this. If you’re trying to decide what’s best for your family, I share more about this in my blog, Pros & Cons of Indoor vs Outdoor Family Sessions.
Their toddler spent most of the time playing with her parents, getting hugs, and pushing her baby doll in a stroller. Those moments ended up being the heart of the session. The pregnancy was there, just woven in naturally, without needing to take over.
In-home sessions also leave room for real life. Snack breaks, outfit changes, and moving at your toddler’s pace are all part of it. We can also step outside when it feels right, like the backyard or your neighborhood. For this session, we started on the front stairs, then took a short walk around the block before nap time.

As a parent myself, I know the seasons pass quicker than expected. One day it’s life as a family of three, and then everything shifts. That’s what makes sessions like this, and San Francisco maternity photos like these, so meaningful. Not because everything is perfectly styled, but because it reflects what your days actually look like.
When you work with me, there’s no pressure to make your session into something it’s not. Just space to document your family as you are, in a place that already holds so much of your story. The routines and movement, to the small interactions. These are what end up mattering most.
If you’re looking for a San Francisco maternity and/or family photographer who can document your family in a way that feels true to you, I’d love to connect. Whether that’s at home or at one of the many beautiful San Francisco Family Photo Locations, we can create something that reflects this season in a natural way.
