It always amazes me that there are such beautiful, majestic redwood groves in the heart of the metropolis of Oakland, CA! Walking among these giant trees you automatically feel a sense of peace and awe. It’s amazing to watch fog and sunlight filter through the canopy of trees and it makes for stunning photos. This family session in Redwood Oakland Park was full of little adventures and sweet family moments because in the Redwoods there’s so much to explore!

A Sweet Redwood Oakland Park Family Session

This sweet family had a beautiful family session at Redwood Grove, which is technically part of Joaquin Miller Park and right next to Redwood Regional Park! This family session was on a foggy morning and we had fun exploring among the trees, even stumbling upon a tree house built with sticks. Big brother Lucas was about to turn 5 years old and did his best superman run throughout the forest.

At this point, baby brother Joaquin is in the full-on toddler phase, walking around and putting everything in his mouth! Redwood Grove is such a special place for families to spend time. I always aim to keep my sessions fun and laid back with lots of opportunities for connection and exploration!

Because of the soft forest floor, it’s a perfect spot for toddlers who fall and for high energy five year old’s who want to run around and explore. There are also tree houses and see-saws with lots of opportunities to create and explore amongst the redwoods!

Cool Effects With The Lensbaby Edge35 Tilt Shift Lens

I used a Lensbaby Edge35 Tilt Shift lens for some of the last images for this family session to create a cool effect on the light streaming through the trees. I like to integrate fun effects like this in addition toward the end of a session! You can see an example of these in the photos below!
