I loved getting to watch the talented Alma Y Luz Clay work her magic with clay at the light-filled Pottery Studio in SF. It felt fitting to capture this creative session on film. Like film photography, ceramics is an art form that requires patience, slowing down and being in the moment, embracing imperfections, and reveling in the surprise of the unique pieces of art that emerge from your efforts. For me, that surprise – and capturing other creatives at work – never gets old.
We captured Lindy at work from measuring out clay and throwing it on the wheel, to shaping pieces, adding glaze and hand-drawn art, and prepping them to be fired in the kiln. We also captured some of her recent final pieces ranging from brightly colored cups, bowls and vases to more muted, earth-tone dishes. All of the pieces are one of a kind and truly beautiful.
I love working with and documenting the creative process of other artists working in other mediums. I had so much fun seeing Lindy work her magic and photographing her beautiful pieces. Visiting San Francisco? Don’t miss The Pottery Studio in SF!
