This spring I hosted a series of motherhood portraits to document details of love and connection between mamas and their children. Mothers too often don’t get themselves into the photos! I wanted to change that. In some special instances, I was able to capture three generations together. This was the case with this family studio portraits session. It was so sweet to see these three interact with each other and create family heirlooms to pass on to future generations.
Studio sessions offer a controlled environment which can be good for little ones crawling around AND variable weather. You can also achieve a multitude of different looks like classic and modern look with the options of integrating various backdrops and props, if desired.
At Clove and Whole Studio in Emeryville, California, we were able to achieve a few different looks for these ladies. We used a white backdrop for some of the photos for a nice clean look. For other photos we used the natural lighting from the large windows! This studio is filled with minimal and modern aesthetics, giving you plenty of opportunity for various looks! While I do love outdoor sessions, sometimes choosing indoor studio portraits can be a great option as well! Unsure of which to choose? “Laura’s work speaks for itself. But what her stunning images don’t show is every step leading up to the final result. You don’t get the kind of spark that Laura achieves without connecting with the person behind the camera. Laura took the time to get to know us, our goals, and she immediately put us at ease (a feat for those who want beautiful pictures but who are also camera shy!) She was both collaborative and directive, and she went above and beyond to take the time she needed to follow her artistic instinct. She was professional, funny, kind, and an absolute pleasure to work with. It is impressive to capture the beauty of nature, but to capture the warmth and joy of a child, a couple, and a family is a true art. Every pretty picture starts with a photographer who can summon and capture magic–and Laura does both.”
